On the afternoon of April 26, 2017, shouts of exhilaration could be heard throughout the office as Kency, our Program Coordinator excitedly shared with our team that HobokenGirl, a Lifestyle blogger in Hoboken was hosting a fundraising event they called “Prom Prep Rally Madness.” It was a fundraising effort in which one hundred percent of the proceeds would benefit the mission of Suits for Success Inc., the Home of Dress for Success Hudson County. The Amazing event was held at the Hoboken High School in Hoboken, which gave high school students the opportunity to buy new or gently used donated prom dresses and suits for the low cost of 5.00 dollars. The event also hosted an array of other donated items including purses, jewelry, shoes and some toiletries.
To show support to our supporters, myself and a volunteer excitedly went to “Prom Prep Rally Madness.” At the event, we had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful women and Jennifer Tripucka, the Editor-in-Chief of HobokenGirl who put the event together. According to Jennifer’s profile on her blog, she is, “just another sarcastic, straight-haired brunette from New Jersey with leather boots and a Louis Vuitton. But, I happen to adore blogging…and all things Hoboken.” After meeting Jennifer, I can say that is only the tip of the iceberg. During our meeting, Jennifer explained that to pay it forward she often hosts events asking Hudson County residents to give their time and donations to help people, businesses, and nonprofits become well known in their communities. One of the things that the ladies who organized the event wanted to do was to teach the students to give back to their community.
The event began with a call to drop off donations. Over the course of three weeks, donations from Alba Boutique, Hudson Family Chiropractic, and Boutique Realty started arriving. Once donations were collected, Tara Donnelly and Ashley Roshowski, two Hoboken High School Advisors coordinated the storage space for the donations to be kept until the event. The lovely Jewelry for sale was donated by Andrea Popovich and Avon representative. While browsing the dresses and tables of accessories, which was well organized and executed, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the fabulous women who organized, donated and worked at bringing the event to reality. The volunteers working the event were Jennifer Tripucka, Tiffany Pinero, Andrea Popovich, Molly Kern, Kristy Magee and Nicole Torres. These women make empowerment a reality. HobokenGirl and all the volunteers and participants of “Prom Prep Rally Madness,” have taught us “Knowledge is power, community is strength and positive attitude is everything”- Lance Armstrong. A special thank you to these beautiful, powerful women for giving to Suits for Success, Dress for Success Hudson County.
