Talbots Launches “Give Confidence, Hope & Style Initiative” to Benefit Dress for Success

New York, NY (February 23, 2015): Calling all women! Spring cleaning season is upon us and here is the motivation you need to clean out your closets for a good cause. Dress for Success and Talbots are encouraging women to recognize the needs of others, rally their peers and most importantly, respond. The two organizations are teamed up to provide women throughout the U.S. and Canada with a simple but meaningful way to makeover their closets while also helping to make over the lives of disadvantaged women who are seeking to re-enter the workforce.

Through Talbots new corporate philanthropic platform, Step Through The Red Door, the Company is asking their devoted customers as well as their 8,000 employees to step through Talbots iconic red doors and engage, support, donate, mentor and contribute. Talbots believes that every woman should have the tools and opportunity to achieve personal and financial success. Through the Talbots Give Confidence, Hope & Style Initiative national marketing campaign, chain wide store events, charitable contributions, clothing donations and the Talbots Red Door Grant program, Talbots and Dress for Success will enable disadvantaged women to look and feel their best and achieve economic independence.

From February 23 – March 22, the Talbots Give Confidence, Hope & Style Initiative will include Spring Style Events at Talbots stores throughout North America. Similar events will be held at Talbots stores in the Fall. Customers will also be given the opportunity to make a charitable monetary donation to Dress for Success at Talbots stores.  In addition, and as part of this year-long partnership with Dress for Success, Talbots will fund the newly created Talbots Red Door Grant Program, the funds of which will directly support the efforts of Dress for Success’ Professional Women’s Group.

From March 5 –March 8, supporters will be able to donate nearly new wear-to-work items to Dress for Success at their local Talbots retail locations. Talbots stores across the U.S. and Canada will serve as drop-off sites for office-appropriate attire, including suits, dress shirts, blazers, pants, dresses and shoes. All clothing donations will be used to benefit women who aspire to transition into the workforce and pursue economic independence. On March 7, all Talbots retail stores will open their doors early for Spring Style Events at which customers can shop the new spring collection and enjoy refreshments and gift card drawings.

The Talbots Red Door Grant Program will provide women from Professional Women’s Group (PWG) with start-up funds to create a Community Action Project within their local markets. The PWG is an international networking association for Dress for Success clients that provides support, practical information and inspiration to those women that have recently gained employment and are adjusting to their new work environment. To emphasize the importance of helping others just as they have been helped themselves, each year select women from this program from around the world are tasked to identify a need in their community and then create an initiative that strives to address and alleviate this issue.

“Talbots is really the epitome of professionalism having provided sophisticated and timeless looks to women for almost 70 years, which makes it particularly fitting that our partnership take place during Women’s History Month,” said Joi Gordon, Chief Executive Officer of Dress for Success Worldwide. “With this campaign, we will be able to instill these same characteristics in women throughout the world as they pursue their path to self-sufficiency. We’re not only making history; we’re shaping futures.”

“For nearly 70 years, the Talbots brand has been inspiring and connecting with women to help them express their best selves every day.  Our partnership with Dress for Success marks a dynamic new chapter for our brand, and brings focus and momentum to our efforts to help women achieve both professional and personal success,” said Lizanne Kindler, Chief Executive Officer of Talbots. “I’m so proud that together with our associates, and our deeply engaged customers we have developed a platform and the tools that will help disadvantaged women develop their careers, achieve economic independence and thrive in work and life.”

The Talbots March catalog celebrates Dress for Success with an interview with Joi Gordon and Melissa Molinero, a client of the Dress for Success program. They discuss empowerment and how the right wardrobe can put a woman on the path to success. Dress for Success and Talbots have also collaborated on a video that encourages women across the country to support and engage in the Talbots Give Confidence, Hope & Style initiative and allows them to experience the profound impact Dress for Success has had on thousands of women’s lives. The video can be found on www.talbots.com.
